Here's a classic mulled wine recipe that's easy to make and fills the house with Christmas  aromas!

Classic Mulled Wine Recipe

Ingredients:

• 1 bottle of red wine (a fruity red like Merlot, Shiraz, or Zinfandel works well)
• 1 orange, sliced into rounds (plus extra for garnish)
• 5-6 whole cloves
• 2-3 cinnamon sticks
• 2-3 star anise pods
• 1 tsp whole allspice berries (optional)
• 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
• 1/4 cup brandy (optional for extra warmth)
• Fresh nutmeg for grating (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Base: Pour the wine into a large pot or saucepan. Add the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and allspice if using.
2. Heat Gently: Warm the mixture over low to medium heat. Make sure not to let it boil, as this can cause the alcohol to evaporate. Heat until it’s just below a simmer (about 15-20 minutes), allowing the spices to infuse.
3. Sweeten & Adjust: Stir in the honey or maple syrup, tasting and adjusting to your sweetness preference. Add brandy if desired for an extra kick.
4. Serve: Once the wine is warm and infused with the spices, remove it from the heat. Strain if preferred, or serve with the spices in for decoration. Garnish with extra orange slices and a grating of fresh nutmeg if you like.

Tips:

• Experiment with Flavour: For extra depth, try adding a few cardamom pods, a small sprig of rosemary, or a vanilla bean.
• Non-Alcoholic Option: Substitute the wine with grape juice or cranberry juice for a cozy alcohol-free version.
