Jordan Barrel Fermented Assyrtiko 750ml

Estate Summary

From the cool, elevated vineyards of Stellenbosch Kloof, Jordan Wine Estate continues to innovate with alternative varietals suited to its maritime-influenced terroir. Assyrtiko, a grape originating from Greece, thrives in these conditions, producing wines of intensity, freshness and minerality. This barrel-fermented expression showcases Jordan’s signature balance — combining vibrant acidity with layered texture and complexity.

Winemaking & Oak Influence

The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak. The wine undergoes extended lees ageing with bâtonnage, enhancing mouthfeel and depth, while preserving Assyrtiko’s natural acidity and structure. Oak is used judiciously to add texture and subtle spice, rather than dominate the wine.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold in colour, this Assyrtiko opens with aromas of lemon zest, lime and green apple, layered with notes of wet stone, saline minerality and a hint of toasted almond. The palate is textured yet vibrant, showing flavours of citrus, pear and subtle stone fruit, supported by bright, driving acidity and a distinctive mineral backbone. The finish is long, crisp and slightly savoury, with a refined interplay between freshness and oak-derived complexity.

Food Pairing

An outstanding partner for grilled seafood, shellfish, oysters, sushi, roast chicken and Mediterranean dishes, particularly those with citrus or olive oil. Also excellent with goat’s cheese.

"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "

- Terry Wharton Hood -

Great wine at a great time, everytime
