The Vineyards

The grapes came from vineyards planted in 1974 at an altitude of 185 to 195 meters above sea level. New clones were selected and planted in 1999 for enhandiment of more  typical fruit flavours. The treilised vineyards face southeast to west.

The Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked from selected blocks of vineyards from the 1st week of February until the 1st week of March at an average of 25 deg baling. 80 % of the free run juice was fermented on the skins, and was separated and pressed at 60 baling. After fermentation the young wine was inoculated with maloiactic bacteria and after 3 rackings the wine was transferred to 300l French oak barrels where it matured for 18 months.
Winemakers comments
Deep ruby in colour, complimented with strong blackcurrant, red and blackberry aromas of ripe fruit, perfectly married with a good structure of subtle woody flavours. Together, a balanced and unforgettable long lingering finish. This wine is drinking well now and will age very well in the bottle.

The way a pinotage should be

Rich and ripe dark fruit on a full bodied wine - the way a Pinotage should be. Lots of flavours are represented: ripe strawberry, plum, blackcurrant, tobacco, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of coffee. Excellent!

"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "

- Terry Wharton Hood -

Great wine at a great time, everytime
