The Winery

Domaine Michel Briday Rully Blanc is a white Burgundy, 100% Chardonnay, produced vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise sub-region of Burgundy. The Cote Chalonnaise it located to the south of the Côte dOr, as well as Rully, it is also home to the MercureyGivry and Montagny appellations.

Domaine Michel Briday was founded over 40 years ago and has become one of the most highly regarded producers of Rully Blanc. In 1976, Michel and Lucette Briday laid the foundations of the business by renting some 6 hectares of vines in Rully and began to produce their first wines. Their son, Stephane Briday, began working at the estate in 1983 and, after detour of a few years making wine outside of Burgundy, returned to help run the estate. The family purchased their first vineyards in 1996 comprising  93 acres of white Rully La Crée. Today the domaine comprises over 15 hectares of vineyards and is run by Stephane and his wife Sandrine.

Domaine Michel Briday is located in the northern part of the Cote Chalonnaise 20 kms to the south of Beaune. Domaine Michel Briday Rully is made from four parcels of Chardonnay grapes:La Bergerie, Saint Jacques, Chaponnière and La Crée. All the sites are east or a south-east facing with an average vine age of 30 years old. The soils are clay-limestone with a high proportion of clay.

After harvest, the Chardonnay grapes for the Domaine Michel Briday are gently pressed in pneumatic presses. The juice is cooled and left to settle for 12 hours and the juice is racked off. The temperature is then raised to 17c to start alcoholic fermentation which is done using only indigenous yeasts. A third of the wine is fermented in French oak barrels, the remainder in stainless steel. The wine is racked once more, blended and then bottled in September the year after the harvest.

Domaine Michel Briday is part of Bourgogne de Vigne en Verre (BVV). BVV was created in 1981 as group of Burgundy domains with shared values who came together to market their wines. Today there are 35 members who own some 300 hectares of vineyards between them.

"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "

- Terry Wharton Hood -

Great wine at a great time, everytime
