De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 750 ml
De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc 750 ml
A special vineyard selection is made from high-quality vineyards in Lutzville and Darling, plus a small batch of Semillon from De Grendel Vineyards, in which meticulous vineyard management ensures superior fruit concentration and bolder flavours. Grapes were picked separately, depending on phenolic ripeness and flavour components. The vineyards are mostly nourished by weathered shale soils and yield 6 to 7 tons per hectare.
The De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc was so named because the grapes used to make this wine are grown in the vineyard that sprawls out right next to the old coach house (koetshuis in Afrikaans) where the wagons of days gone by were once kept.
The complexity of the Koetshuis promises excellent maturation potential and the wine will no doubt develop further over the next 3 to 5 years.
Tasting information
Pale straw in colour with a fresh and invigorating nose. The wine displays aromas of sour pineapple, fresh honeydew cantaloupe, Packhams pears and an underlying creamy richness from extended lees contact. This complex and multidimensional wine will develop in both the glass and the bottle with time. Decant slowly to ensure optimum drinking pleasure.
Food Compliments
Complex, concentrated and bold this wine will benefit from both food and aging. A perfect partner for zesty citrus sauced white fish, tart goats cheese, and fresh green salads dressed with vinaigrette while young; with a bit of age however, slightly richer seafood dishes with a touch of cream would be sublime.
Ageing Potential
Concentration of flavour and acidity promise excellent maturation potential for the next 4 to 5 years, becoming increasingly richer and integrated as the acidity mellows.

Minerality on nose with some asparagus lime and some oak. Good sourness with good structure and tropical citrus cream on mouth. Like it a lot!!
One of South Africa’s best Sauvignon’s on the market. Flavours: gooseberry asparagus minerals citrus honeysuckle guava passion fruit
Really good Sauvignon Blanc, Surprisingly easy-drinking. Notes of apple on the palate as well as grapefruit. Hints of guava on the nose.
"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "
- Terry Wharton Hood -
