Tim Atkin Wine Of The Year Winner: Best Malbec 2018
Tasting Note
To quote Tim himself 'Stunning: theres only one word to describe this brilliant cuvee of Malbec and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Matias Etcharts isolated estate in the dramatic Quebrada de San Lucas. Deftly matured in 70% new French oak, its a polished, self-assured red with violet and wild thyme aromas, velvety tannins, pepper, bramble and blueberry fruit and the balance that comes from the best vineyards.'
2018 vintage also received high praise from Tim - 'Labelled as a Malbec, but this is a blended wine, with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon supplying extra tannin and backbone. Floral, concentrated, yet refreshingly medium bodied, it has cassis, blackberry and herbal flavours, silky, svelte, layered tannins, subtle 30% new wood, chalky minerality and remarkable poise and length. A brilliant wine from one of the best sites in the north'
Food Pairing
Pairing food with Malbec is simpler than you might think. Since the wine has a fuller body, it's an excellent match for stronger-flavoured and richer foods.
Youll find Malbec a great match for steak, pork, and lamb, as well as fattier fish like salmon and poultry with dark meat. Game meatlike bison, ostrich, and venisonare also a safe bet.
Sustainability
Love and respect for nature play an essential role in our work, from planting the vines to harvesting the grapes and distributing each bottle of wine to the end consumer.
In northern Argentina, as in many other places in the country and in South America, the "Pacha Mama", Mother Earth, is revered as a great gift from God. Aware of this gift, we ensure that productive activity brings beauty to the place and we pay attention to it, to preserve the existing delicate balance. We treat the vines without invasive techniques, letting the blazing sun of the day and the deep cold of the night ensure tasty grapes. The altitude at 2,100 meters above sea level and the dry climate offer ideal health conditions for our vineyard.
The sun shines almost every day in "Arca Yaco". We have therefore installed solar systems that cover 100% of the electricity needs of the property.
In addition, we are pioneers in the use of light and resistant bottles, which significantly reduce the ecological footprint along the entire logistics chain. We do not use any plastics in the packaging, only glass, paper and cardboard.

Big, round, bold. But fresh, good vegetable notes including lots of bell pepper.
Savory, cool, full bodied
A wow Argentinian wine! Amazing, and a great story behind it. Taste of plum and black fruit and maybe licorice.
Full blooded, fruity, heavy and extremely tasty
Quality wine. Closed and restrained on opening. Needs decanting and time to open up. Lashings of black fruits on the palate, complex and savoury. Chocolate, blackberry, caramel tones on the finish. Oak present but in balance. Superfine tannins, lingering black fruits on the finish. Will reward careful cellaring. 95 pts
"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "
