Tim Atkin Wine Of The Year Winner: Best Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Tim Atkin Wine Of The Year Winner: Best Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Tasting Note
Perfectly summed up by Tim Atkin in his 2021 report - 'Matias Etcharts small, isolated estate in the Quebrada de San Lucas is one of the great vineyards of Latin America, which is even more remarkable when you consider that the vines were only planted in 2013. This pure, small-volume Cabernet Sauvignon is subtle, floral and refined, with notes of fresh herbs, bramble and cassis, silky tannins and a graceful, nuanced finish.'
Previous vintages also praised by Tim include the 2018 - '2018 was a cooler year in the wilds of the Quebrada de San Lucas, a spectacular, isolated Andean site at 2,100 metres. The result is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from Matias Etchart thats still youthful and will reward cellaring. Intense, chalky, leafy and focused, it has nuanced tannins, green herb and blackcurrant fruit and subtle 30% new wood'
Food Pairing
Cabernet Sauvignon is usually best paired with a red meat entrée, but can also go well with vegetarian meals such as portobello mushrooms and certain cheeses. A burger or lamb dish is also another great option.

Lovely savory and perfumed wine with suggestions of black berry and blueberry fruit along with cacao, eucalyptus, and herbs. On the palate, dark berry fruits with a hint of vanilla on the finish, mild and well-integrated tannins, medium plus acidity, and a mediu@m plus body. I'm in love. Enjoy! p.s. Paired with Argentinian Wagyu steak.
Deep ruby. Pronounced aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, black plum, pepper, smoke, nutmeg, cedar. Youthful. The palate is dry, medium acidity, high alcohol, high tannins, full-bodied, pronounced flavours of black fruit, earthy, nutmeg, cedar. The finish is long. This is an outstanding wine. Very enjoyable on its own. We enjoyed it with a baked beans stew.
Full bodied, great depth.
Beautiful wine. Drank bottle 2957. Very full-bodied wine with huge nose of dark fruits and alcohol. Must sit 40 minutes due to its very high alcohol. Notes of pepper, tobacco and liquorice. Super dry and long finish.
"So great to be able to receive a regular delivery of good wine rather than the usual 12 bottle case sold by most 'wine clubs' "
- Terry Wharton Hood -
Great wine at a great time, everytime
