Tasting Note
The first vintage of this iconic wine was produced in 1922 and is the first South African wine with a 100 consecutive vintages.
The blend consists of 5 varieties and changes every year depending on what nature gives
us, but will always consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz.

Alto from Stellenbosch has been a firm favorite in our household for over 5 decades. The Cabernet Sauvignon is the preferred variation however all of the red blends are superb. Over Christmas I was gifted with five bottles of the Alto Rouge. It is normally a bottle I save for special occasions but now can enjoy more often since receiving this generous gift from my son.
The packaging used by K&L Wines online was extremely hardy ensuring that breakages would definitely not occur during transit.
I was most impressed that the parcel arrived so quickly too seeing as it was ordered very close to the 25th December.
I am also very impressed at the competitive pricing available compared to other suppliers in UK.
I will definitely be taking advantage of the professional services offered by K&L Wines in the future.

Bright colours juxtaposed by its taste profile which is dominated by dark fruit and blackcurrant notes. A solid wine for any occasion.
2020 vintage - over 100 years in production - why don’t I drink this more? Insane value for money! Dark fruit, concentrated ripe fruit, firm tannin, balanced acidity - lovely balance! Dry and fruity lingering finish. Delicious!
Matured maroon red colour in glass with a thinner edge. Nose has smokey berry nuances. Entry is soft, mellow with assertive berry and pepper spices yet fruit is waning. Spicy berry and liquorice lingering. Tannins integrated and soft. 30% Cabernet Franc, 26% Shiraz, 16% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon. Matured for 18 months in a combination of first-, second- and third-fill barriques, mostly of French, American and Hungarian oak, before the desired blend was made.
